League of Legends is a strategy-based game that was released in 2009.
The game came a few years after the release of Dota. It follows a similar
concept of allowing 5 v 5 online matches. The players select different
characters and battle against other characters chosen by their opponents.
If you have played the game, you understand the frustration of the
promotion series that the developers introduced from season 3. The promotion
series was based on a unique aspect that required you to win all your matches
for you to get promoted to the next tier.
First, you had to gather LP by winning matches against other online
players. You only had the chance to get promoted to the next tier after reaching
100LP. Beginning the promotion was both easy and challenging depending on your
luck. To get promoted you had to win two
consecutive games after reaching 100LP. Success in both games meant that you
were raised to tier one. Your LP got reset to zero and you had to start
accumulating LPs again before you got promoted to the next level. Once you had
attained 100LP, you could challenge the game to get promoted to tier one
division one. Promotion required you to win three out of the five games that
followed. Leaving the game automatically translated to a loss in a match as
well as quitting in the middle of a battle.
Conversely, if you lost one of the two consecutive matches, your LP was
reset to zero. You had to grow your LP once again to 100LP before you had the
chance to go to the next level. The promotional series made it hard to grow
from one tier to the next. Furthermore, erasing all your LP after failing to
get promoted cost you a lot of game time.
Luckily, you don't have to suffer the gruesome prospect of losing your
hard-earned LPs because of losing a match. League of Legends has introduced a
new promotion series as of season 11. The promotion series is based on your MMR
similar was first used in season one and two of the game.
You get promoted to the upper-tier if your MMR is above your tier by
the time you reach 100LP. For instance, you get promoted to tier one if your
MMR is Platinum level or higher. The new promotion series offers various
benefits and disadvantages to players.
Players won’t have to suffer the prospect of constantly repeating
matches to get promoted. It’s now easier to scale up the ranks as a result of
the simplified promotion series. However, the process of demotion is also going
to be easier. In season 10 downwards, you did not drop a tier after losing the
promotion series. The developers might include a few handicaps that negatively
affect your promotion.
Overall, the new promotion series can increase your urge to play. You may
find it easier to enjoy the game without having to wait a couple of matches
after losing a promotion series. Let's find out!
