What to Expect from the 2020 LoL World Championship
The
LoL World Championship (Also known as Worlds) is one of the most significant
events in eSports history. It features the best professional League of Legends’
teams worldwide with hundreds of thousands of spectators. While many eSports
events have been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Riot still moved
forward with its big event.
Some
days ago, Riot announced a lot of information regarding their 2020 edition of
the “Worlds” championship. This championship is going to feature 22 teams from
all around the world who are ready to face each other in one of the most epic
gaming events of the year. In this article, we are going to go over all the
details for the upcoming 2020 LoL World Championship.
Worlds 2020 Dates
This
event is scheduled to start on Friday, September 25th, with the play-ins. This
phase is going to run from September 25th to September 30th. As for the
remaining phases, they are going to go as follows:

October 3rd to October 11th
- Quarter-Finals: October
15th to October 18th
- Semi-Finals: October
24th to October 25th
- Finals: October
31st
As
for the type of competition, each team is going to compete in a “Best-of-Five”
format, with a single-elimination bracket.
Worlds 2020 Prize Pool
The
prize pool for this edition of Worlds has not been announced yet. Still, it’s
expected to be higher than the previous years since Riot stated that it was
doing a redistribution of the prize pool to achieve a more “equitable structure”
In this redistribution, the amount given to the winning team is going to be
reduced and reallocated to the other finisher teams.
This
redistribution was also made to account for the VCS teams that are not going to
attend this years’ championship because of the pandemic’s travel
restrictions.

What to Expect
The
fact that Faker and his team “T1” weren’t able to qualify to the championship,
there’s a big opportunity for other fan favorites, such as Fnatic, G2, and
Gen.G. Overall, there seems to be a lot of expectations for this year’s edition
of Worlds since fans thought that Riot would postpone the event due to the
pandemic. The fact that the company managed to hold the event with all the
safety and security measures checked makes both the participants and the fans
eager to see how the event plays.
Initially,
Riot was planning to hold the qualifying phases across several cities in China,
but now they’ve decided to hold all the phases of the competition within
Shanghai, China, to reduce travel risks.
