Twitch is the latest social media craze, even though it has been around since 2011. Twitch is a platform that has gained popularity amongst gamers around the world. What makes Twitch so popular that it has nearly 15 million users. It is an online streaming platform that allows players to broadcast their game-play. In a regular Twitch stream, there is commentary from the broadcaster (also known as the player), their screen, and a chat box.

 

Every day there are people registering to the platform. Some do it to watch others or to try to find an audience for their gameplay. Twitch is not just for players, as it is also a platform that allows individuals who are experts or master gamers to share tips and insight, as well as announce any new games being released.

 

Though one would think all it would take is a webcam and laptop to get started; however, that is just not the case. Here are five tips to get started on Twitch.

 

  1. Proper Equipment – You want to make sure that your microphone and webcam are adequate in quality. The last thing you want is to stream using a webcam or mic that is going to make for a negative experience for the audience. If you are worried about the quality of your existing webcam or mic, most computer or tech shops sell webcam and mic duos starting at $20. If it’s your first time doing live streams, this is a great starting price point.
  2. Internet Connection – Once you have your equipment, you want to make sure your internet download and upload speed are good enough for what you are doing. If you are gaming, you are going to want to make sure you have enough upload speed. 
  3. Interacting with the Audience – Having a Twitch profile is more than just streaming your gameplay or showing off your skills and hobbies. Twitch is also meant to be a platform where you interact with the audience. 
  4. Consistency – To gain followers, you are going to want to be consistent with your streaming. This is going to allow the audience to follow you and discover what else you have in store. 
  5. Create a Brand and Identity – Maybe you are an introvert in real life, but with Twitch, you can come alive. Create a brand and personality that is going to set you apart from other Twitch users. Be memorable. 

 

Once you have your webcam, microphone, and internet set up, create that Twitch account and start showing off your skills and talent on Twitch. You never know if you may be one of the lucky ones who ends up having a mass network with 6,000 followers or more!
