Do you have what
it takes to be part of the league? Well, if you believe you are, this is the
perfect time for you to shine and get known. Get ready to participate in this
year’s Overwatch Contenders.
What are
Overwatch Contenders?
Overwatch
Contenders is the ultimate series of tournaments that you should not miss if
you are aspiring for an Esports career. This is a significant series of professional
tournaments organized by Blizzard Entertainment, the awesome company that gave
you Overwatch. These series of tournaments are held worldwide and serve as a
development series under the Overwatch League for all the professional players
just like you.
Back in October
2019, Overwatch had already given us some clues, and a bit of sneak peek into
the Overwatch Contenders 2020 tournaments. With the coronavirus issues that had
prompted the league officials to cancel its live events, it is also highly
expected to have some changes with the series of the tournament.
Getting into
the Tournament
Getting into the
Overwatch Contenders isn’t that easy. There are series of stages before you
finally reach Contenders and, hopefully, became part of the League.
Traditionally, you will need to join the Open Division team. Usually, the
tournament for this division runs three times a year, and the top teams will
then advance to the game’s “playoffs.” But this year, there will be two seasons
in all of the regions under the contenders.
Each season, it will
consist of four Contenders Trials tournament and four tournaments. Before, the top
16 teams advance to the game, but last 2019, it was decided that only the top
four teams are the ones to be advancing on the next stage of the game. During
the “playoffs,” those qualified teams will be competing in double elimination
brackets. Teams under the regional playoff have the chance to collect points
that will help them advance in further stages of the tournament.
Only the top team
that wins by points in this round shall be the one to move on to Contenders.
The playoff matches will also follow a first-to-three type of format before
advancing to the Finals, which will also follow the same format. The top team
that will be able to win in the regionals will get a chance to play at international
events such as Pacific and Atlantic Showdowns as well as in the gauntlet. Isn’t
that amazing?
That is how the
process goes if you want to join the tournament. Make sure that you are at
least 13 years of age or are already at the maturity age required by your
region to be able to join the tournament.
Aside from the age requirement, you should have excellent game
credentials to make sure you will get into the league. It will still depend on
the previous results and the current progress that you have made. If you think
that there are still things lacking, don’t worry, just continue with your dream
and you will achieve it.
But for this year
2020, just like with the experimental mode, you may want to look out for some
changes. You can check on the official website of Overwatch under the Open
Division page to know more about the upcoming changes with the schedule of
tournaments.
